Story submission

One other thing before I shut up for today (four blog posts in one day? Anyone would think I didn’t have anything better to do).

I sent off a short story competition entry today, for a local literature festival which is taking place over the summer. And when I say short, I mean SHORT – 50 words, no more and no less. Talk about pithy – there’s nothing quite like a word limit to focus the mind. I meant to get the kids to write entries as well, but the weeks crept away from us and they were always busy with other stuff, so we never got round to doing it.

Closing date is tomorrow, so I hope my entry gets there in time. Feedback, if it comes, will be by 8th August, and the winning entries will be posted on a local council website. Not exactly the Booker, but it would be nice if my little scribble made it into the winning pool.

Speaking of the Booker – I heard on the news today that Salman Rushdie’s ‘Midnight’s Children’ won the Best of the Booker award. Really must get around to reading it.
