The blurge
Why do I need to blog?
Well, the answer, clearly, is that I don’t. I’m not living in a war zone or under any sort of repression, nor am I deprived of any of the freedoms of speech, thought or action which we in the so-called ‘civilised’ West demand as our inalienable rights. No-one really needs to hear my voice.
So maybe the question should be, why do I have the urge to blog? (The blurge?)
And the answer to this is, I don’t really know. I sometimes feel that no-one attends to me, but I have a partner, children, parents, sisters and a wide circle of friends – hell, even the cat listens to me occasionally – so I’m fairly sure that’s not entirely true. And yet – and yet. I have opinions which no-one hears, ideas which no-one cares about, dreams which no-one understands. Maybe the blurge is all about putting those opinions, ideas and dreams out there, somewhere, in the hope that someone might read them and go “hey, yeah, I think that too.”
All of which has, I’m sure, been written down many times in many different ways elsewhere in the blogosphere. However, I’m here, ready to scratch my own particular itch. Maybe I’ll hear from someone sometime, and maybe I won’t. In the end I’m not sure that it matters much, either way.
